Thanks so much to everyone who came along to our BIG SUNSET PICNIC on Saturday 1st December! It was an incredible event and one to be remembered. I'm so stoked that i was able to make this dream come true after the vision originally came to me on a drive up the mountain earlier that year. I had always thought it would be the perfect location to have a picnic over sunset, with its panoramic views of both the Gold Coast shoreline and out west towards Beaudesert (where the sun would set).. So the idea got a little crazier, when i thought.. i'd love to do this with 100 (or more) friends! And so i put the dream into action. The hall owners Greg and Wendy were very supportive of the idea and we locked in a date that worked with the rest of the band. The idea grew into inviting a support act... and creating a human mandala... and somehow also squeezing in a picnic and Leopold's Treat too. Well, there are good things to learn from everything, but i can say with my whole heart that this event was a dream come true. To walk outside and see everyone with their BYO picnics out on the grass blew me away. AND THEN the human mandala, which was made extra special by the appearance of my friend and hilarious special guest Olga (YogawithOlga), who showed everyone how to love themselves a little bit more.. and their elbows. Thanks Olga ;)
The whole event was magic and i feel blessed to be surrounded by such a beautiful musical family, who are supportive of my big ideas and low to zero waste events! We can have fun AND tread lightly, for a better planet.
Some special footage was captured on the night and will be used to create two live music videos! To stay up to date and support our upcoming videos, please head over to youtube and subscribe to Leopold's Treat: www.youtube.com/leopoldstreat
Here are some photos to share some of the good vibes :)
It was a real treat to be invited to play at the Austinville leg of the Festival of Small Halls Tour at Mt Nimmel Hall, for the second year in a row! The massive tour is put on in Association with Woodford Folk Festival and run by a small team of awesome humans. This year, i was supporting the beautiful Lucy Wise (AUS) and sweet yet quirky Old Man Luedecke (USA) who plays incredible banjo! Last year it was Liz Stringer (AUS) and the incredible story man Vance Gilbert (USA). Feeling stoked to have been able to share the stage with all of these incredible, world class, touring musicians.

Our Springbrook Secret Soiree was another beautiful unique event, which saw 100 or so friends of Leopold's Treat join the band at Springbrook Hall for an afternoon of music with Leopold's Treat, supported by local duo the Brothers Calling. The event was originally to be held in band member Kierans backyard a month earlier, but rainy weather meant we had to postpone and consider another venue option. The hall was the perfect solution. I feel so blessed that people from the mountain and also so many people from different parts of the coast made the trip to come and join our event. This was our second Springbrook Secret Soiree, with the first one held in Kieran's backyard in July 2017. These events are intimate and up close and have such an incredible vibe about them because everyone is there to have fun, be amongst friends ... and just be really!
Thank you for supporting Leopold's Treat, we are grateful to feel such a strong support for the band from our beautiful community. Find out more by following us on insta: @leopoldstreatmusic and liking our facebook page: www.facebook.com/leopoldstreat
A few snaps below to share the vibe.
On Monday the 2nd April, 2018, an energised and somewhat shiney Leopold's Treat trio comprising Dave Honeyman, Neil Macleod and yours truly (Kate Leopold), shared the stage with the incredible, world class touring musicians Juzzie Smith and the Hussy Hicks. Together we formed the musical soundscape for the arrival of the Queens Baton, which, as we discovered had been travelling for 98 days and had another two to go, having traversed its way around the world, through hundreds of hands of sporting legends, like tennis champion Jeff Masters who humbly and happily ran the baton into its final pit stop for the day in Nerang. There's a kind of glow about people when they feel like they are connected to and doing something for the greater good, which was radiating from the guy as he made a little speech on stage. While the music formed a small component of the event, it added an essential element for bringing people together and creating some good vibes to welcome in the baton runners.
It was such a delight to have played at such a unique event - which was a once in a lifetime experience. Together, we three treats played our unique style of *grassroots acoustic folk* music to the onlookers who were starting together for the main event. The kids were having a great time with all the play things provided by the man who i've come to know as Sparky (doo dah!). We enjoyed some yummy vegan treats from the potato people and other food trucks. Most of the packaging i noticed was biodegradable cardboard and paper. Nice!
Kate reflects on the Bleach* Festival experience @ Feast on Fifth last weekend:
"As I walked in to drop off my gear at the back of the stage on Saturday, I was quickly greeted by event manager and staff member Julia and Maddy. They were incredibly helpful and welcoming and so well organised!. The stash of guitar cases in the green tent told me that the rest of the band had already arrived.. as we walked in we noticed the relaxed and friendly vibe. The street had been transformed into an outdoor dining hall and more people were starting to arrive - the tables were already about 3/4 full and it was less than an hour into the event! They were enjoying the tunes of Harry J Hart and then Tully-John and Lisa-Jane. As the sun set, more people arrived - it was a great turnout from the Gold Coast community!
As we set up and began to play, I was overjoyed by the radiant smiles on either side of my felt hatted musical comrades, Kieran and Dave - who seemed to frame the band. They were both smiling ear to ear each time I looked at them. I could feel their energy beaming from their hearts. I know them well enough to sense that It's because we love playing music together. It's also because music lights us up. It's also because we could feel the incredible vibe that was rippling through the audience. We were having fun doing something that we loved and feeling good about it.
Said Sarah Dern, bass player: ‘The bleach. gig was an incredibly fun one! The organisers created a cosy, relaxed market vibe and it was pleasure to play for the gorgeous community who gathered to enjoy live music on the Gold Coast.’
We were stoked at the incredible turnout of friends and supporters who came along to see the band and captured a few of the faces of Leopold's Treat (see images). Thank you 'love tribe'.. I guess that name is here to stay! It came about at an October event held by the band at Tallebudgera Community Hall where over 150 people came along to a kind of extended house concert, a 'secret soiree'."
The next full band event looks to be in July and is taking shape right now so stay posted for more info for this intimate 'secret soiree', or join our mailing list at www.leopoldstreat.com

Check out this video to get a feel for the real deal - some of the beautiful, homegrown music medicine that couples with the vibe of an incredible group of humans in a rainforest backyard. A massive tribute to Nuno Lopez of Noons Studio, for throwing this beautiful video together. Luckily, Nuno just lives two doors down from the Springbrook home of band member Kieran Richardt (slide guitar, didge, banjo, harmonies), who opened his doors for the final installment of our winter 'Secret Soiree' season. The Secret Soirees have been quite popular, with two sold out house concerts and a small number of privately hosted ones in between!
Leopold's Treat love to create unique spaces for sharing music, that are a little different from the regular Gold Coast venue. It is a delight to see such an incredible, connected and heartfelt response and the growing sense of community among friends and family of Leopold's Treat.
